Building Bridges Through Design and 天美影视

Cindy Santana Medina

Cindy Santana Medina 鈥27鈥檚 passion for blending creativity and technology has guided her LVC educational journey, preparing her to thrive in a world where digital experiences shape everyday interactions.

Originally considering the University of Delaware for visual communications, Cindy chose LVC after discovering its Digital Media (formerly Digital Communications) and Interaction Design programs. She was drawn to the hands-on learning approach and the opportunity to explore design and technology in depth.

鈥淚 am fascinated by how human interaction and technology create bridges and form meaningful connections鈥攚hether between people or between humans and technology,鈥 she explained. 鈥淭he synergy between these two disciplines allows me to explore the creative and functional aspects of design.”

Cindy鈥檚 coursework has given her experience in human-centered design, usability, and interface design. One of her most rewarding projects involved designing a motion capture camera harness tailored to students鈥 needs. Through research and multiple iterations, she created a practical, cost-effective solution. These experiences reinforced the importance of problem framing, thoughtful prototyping, and balancing aesthetics with functionality.

鈥淒igital design will help me visually communicate messages effectively, while interaction design will allow me to craft intuitive and engaging user experiences,鈥 she said. 鈥淭ogether, they will enhance my ability to create seamless and impactful digital interactions.鈥

Dr. Jeff Ritchie, chair of the Design, Media, & 天美影视 department, has been a key mentor. He encouraged Cindy to pursue both majors, recognizing her ability to merge intuitive design with behavioral analysis. His insights into design and AI in user experience have been instrumental in shaping her academic path.

Beyond academics, Cindy is deeply involved in campus life. As Captain, she has gained leadership experience and a deeper understanding of esports culture. Founding the DigiVal Club allowed her to connect students with industry professionals, including a successful tour of JPL Agency鈥檚 headquarters. As a Resident Assistant, she has honed time management and communication skills, each of which contribute to her growth as a designer and leader.

Her long-term goal is to work in a dynamic, creative environment designing interactive user experiences. She is particularly interested in game development and AR/VR, where storytelling and design combine to create immersive digital experiences.

鈥溙烀烙笆觟ng a workplace that fosters innovation and pushes me creatively is a key priority for my future career.鈥

Cindy鈥檚 journey is also shaped by her background. As the daughter of an immigrant mother, she brings a unique perspective to her work and values the opportunities LVC has provided. “We, as students, have aspirations, creativity, and dreams that we strive to achieve through technology and design,” she says.

鈥淚 come from a non-traditional background. I am older than the typical college student and came to LVC to pursue my passion for technology and design. Without the support of LVC, I wouldn鈥檛 have the foundation I stand on today.鈥
